Work on paper

My first job as an illustrator was making a daily illustration for the Roskilde Festival magazine in Denmark. Since then, I have collaborated with several publications such as National Geographic, History National Geographic, New Scientist… working on different international projects. In my personal work, I usually do research into watercolors and inks, sometimes mixed with charcoal and pencil.

Infographics

Doing an infographics course with Fernando Baptista further opened my eyes to other forms of storytelling, inspiring me to take a more diverse approach, which I employ when compiling information about any story I am faced with. In 2015, I pitched a project about a balloon expedition which was published by National Geographic, and since then, I have worked for them as a model-maker and infographic artist. In this role, I usually study maps, build miniatures, design sets, digitalize models through photographs, add color and textures with digital illustration, and create order out of all these elements to achieve the final piece. It is a complex work of scientific and historical research, which allows me to mix diverse areas of expertise I have developed over the years.

Model making

During my time as an artist, I have furthered my knowledge as model-maker, developing my skill-set to include prop making, handling a variety of materials and learning from the model-maker, David Neat, in his studio in London. I usually work with wood, cardboard, wire, fabric…learning about new materials as required on each project.

Set design

What I particularly enjoy is the process of telling stories and working with my hands to create new worlds. Working as a set designer on animation projects has allowed me to merge several techniques together such as sculpting, sanding, carving and painting, in order to give life to different scenarios. Some examples of animations where I have collaborated such as the stop motion animation video for Walk the moon, “The keys” or  Flexo Innovation Award animation video in cut-out paper.

Having a background in sculpture mainly working with clay and plaster, I attended a Sculpting for Props course at Pinewood Studios with Gavin Jones, a leading Prop Maker in the Film and Television industry, where I learnt about moulding and casting, which opened up new perspectives.

Work on canvas

Painting has always been the way of expressing myself, and where I have felt most comfortable. Working on large format canvases, mixing acrylics, watercolors, inks, fabrics and collage, I have been involved in several exhibitions around Europe such as ARCO-Spain, ART ATHINA-Greece and BCJEM-Italy. I learnt painting techniques with Patricia Gadea and Juan Gallego.
